Canterbury is a historic cathedral city in South East England. The city has a large student population of over 38,000, which accounts for the buzzing nightlife. There are many pubs and bars in Canterbury. The Bell and Crown is perfect for summer evenings, as there is an outside seating area offering views of the cathedral and through Palace Street. The Cherry Tree on Whitehorse Lane can get very lively and is a popular student haunt. The Chill is the biggest nightclub in Canterbury and is open every night; the club caters for students with drinks promotions and plays a mixture of 80’s, 90’s and more modern beats.
Canterbury has a lot to offer for those in need of some retail therapy. The high street offers all the favourite brands as well as a range of independent retailers. Whitefriars is a large shopping centre on Gravel Walk, in the centre of the city. The shopping centre includes over 70 shops and is home to fashion, jewellery, mobile phone and health retailers. Whitefriars is also home to a number of restaurants like Carluccio’s, Eat and Catch. Many of the shops offer a student discount so don’t forget your NUS card.
