The area around Church Gate, Silver Street and High Street are particularly popular and can get busy with people bar and club hopping. Lamplighters is the place to go for rock and punk music, the venue is also home to occasional live gigs, so keep an eye out on their website so as not to miss out. Rockstar can be found on Welford Road and is a popular student destination.

Science buffs can get their fix at The National Space Centre, just two miles from the city centre. The centre is one of Leicester’s leading visitor attractions and is dedicated to the science of space and astronomy. The centre is formed from a partnership between the University of Leicester’s Space Research Centre and the local government, and features six galleries of exhibits, a planetarium and a Digistar Dome. Visitors to the centre have the chance to see The Soyuz 7K OK(A) Spacecraft, the only known Soyuz spacecraft in Europe.

Phoenix Square (previously Leicester Digital Media Centre) is a popular student hangout. The building is home to a digital exhibition space, digital production facilities and two cinema screens. The cinemas offer films from the art house and world cinema genres and provide a great opportunity to discover some relatively unknown films.
